Building A Sharepoint Picture Library
One of the great things about Sharepoint is that there is a large selection of standard list to choose from. One of more interesting is the Picture Library.
The Picture Library allows us to store graphics onto our intranet without the complexity that other intranets cause.
To create a new list, click on the “Create” link on the top blue toolbar. This shows us all the standard lists that can be created by Sharepoint - as you can see that’s quite a lot!
Let’s say we’re going to create a photo board of our Staff. Pick the “Picture Library” list option from this screen. Call the list “Staff List” and click “Create”. You will end up with a Sharepoint Photo Library for your staff!
Click here for an example of a Picture Library with a graphic uploaded.
If you don’t have a picture to use for this step, download the one at http://www.bigfoto.com/ - it’s a royalty-free picture library with some great images.
Click the “Add a Picture” icon on the small toolbar and upload your graphic. Add a title to the picture and maybe even a description.
Click “Save” when you’re happy. You will be taken back to the main Picture Library.
Take some time to review different views available on the left hand bar. These are
- Details – gives the most detailed view
- Thumbnail – gives small pictures to represent the full picture you uploaded
- Filmstrip – this gives the ability to flick through the pictures one after another.
See how easy it was? In our next post we’ll look at customizing this list to add additional information.
